How Imperish Began

Imperish was born out of a simple question:

What if the food we throw away could be a resource instead of a burden?

In Egypt, around 163 kg of food is wasted per capita every year, according to United Nations Environmental Programme figures. This waste comes at a steep environmental cost. Each person contributes nearly 500 kg of CO₂ emissions annually, further fueling climate change (FAO, 2019). In that imbalance, we saw an opportunity to create real, measurable impact.

Founded in Egypt, Imperish is a response to both local realities and global sustainability challenges. Sustainability is not just part of our mission; it is at the heart of every decision we make. From rescuing food that would otherwise go to waste to making it accessible to more people, we are building a model that is better for both people and the planet.

The name Imperish reflects our vision: a world where good food does not go to waste, where resources do not perish before reaching their potential. It may sound unfamiliar at first, but its meaning is simple: to last, to endure, to stay valuable. That is the future we are building, one where food is preserved, not discarded.

We are inspired by the resilience of our communities and the need for a food system that values resources instead of discarding them. By connecting businesses with surplus stock to people seeking affordable food, we turn excess into access.

Imperish is more than a marketplace.

It’s a movement toward a future where no good food goes to waste, and no meal is taken for granted.
