Sustainability at the Core

At Imperish, sustainability is not just a goal. It is our starting point and the foundation of our mission. Every decision we make is shaped by the belief that good food should never go to waste, and that real impact begins with everyday choices rooted in responsibility.

The Global Cost of Food Waste

Food waste is not just an issue of inefficiency. It is a challenge with economic, environmental, and social consequences. Globally, it costs the economy an estimated $1 trillion every year (WFP, 2024). In Egypt, the challenge is especially urgent. At Imperish, we see this as an opportunity to shift how food is valued, shared, and sustained for the future.

Our Startup Commitment to Sustainability

As a growing startup, we believe that meaningful change comes from small, consistent actions and from holding ourselves accountable. That is why we are committed to embedding sustainability into every layer of our business model from day one, not just in our operations but also in how we grow, report, and improve.

Accountability from Day One

While we are still early in our journey, we are building systems that will allow us to track the food we save, the emissions we prevent, and the people we reach. As we scale, we will share this data openly because sustainability only matters if it is measurable, and progress only counts if it is transparent.

Our ESG Impact

Environmental

18 million tonnes of household food are wasted annually in Egypt, contributing to unnecessary land use, water consumption, and energy loss

Globally, 8–10% of greenhouse gas emissions are linked to food waste. In Egypt, per capita waste ranges from 122 to 207 kg/year, a significant contributor to emissions and climate change.

By intercepting food before it’s thrown away, Imperish helps reduce emissions, cut landfill use, and ease pressure on natural resources.

Social

Up to 77% of the food discarded is still edible, even as many families face economic hardship and struggle to afford regular meals.

Our platform bridges this gap, connecting surplus from businesses directly to people looking for affordable, quality food.

Through smarter distribution, we’re supporting food equity and helping communities make their budgets go further.

Governance

Transparency and accountability are central to how we operate.

We work closely with our partners from bakeries, restaurants, supermarkets, and food producers to ensure food safety, traceability, and compliance with best practices.

As we grow, we’re committed to building a responsible model that balances impact with scale.
